Media Release: Ignition
- Sparks will fly at Ignition
- (Columbus, Ohio - March 11, 2008) - The Fuse Factory Electronic & Digital Arts Lab, an emerging not-for-profit arts organization in Columbus, is hosting its first juried exhibition, Ignition, on March 28th and 29th at the headquarters of Rescentris, located in Easton Town Center at 4100 Regent St. Suite M, Columbus OH 43219. A committee of seven jurors selected works from dozens of submissions by artists from Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo, Galloway, and Cuyahoga Falls.
- Ignition includes 2-D works and 3-D installations as well as soundscapes and live performances by Ohio artists working with a wide variety of digital and electronic media, ranging from robotics and software applications to machinima and podcasting. In exploring the convergence of art, science, and technology, the show features electronic music, digital prints, experimental short films and videos, interactive sculpture, robots, and computer animations.
- An open forum with speakers from various fields will further explore the impact of science and technology on the arts, culture and society. A thought-provoking medley of artists, technologists, and scientific innovators will share their perspective on the evolving scientific and technological landscape and its impact on the arts.
- "The purpose of this exhibit is to showcase Ohio artists who are addressing issues that various technologies and scientific developments have brought to bear on our daily life, as well as encourage the public to reflect upon the meaning of being human in our technology-saturated society," said Dr. Alison Colman, Founder and Executive Director of the Fuse Factory.
- In realizing its mission, the Fuse Factory cultivates artistic production, research, and experimentation with digital media and electronic tools through 1) art exhibits featuring emerging and established technologies; 2) events and festivals; 3) after-school programs in art and media literacy; 4) artists' workshops; 5) cross-disciplinary dialogue; and 6) sponsoring other organizations with compatible missions.
- An artists' reception will take place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, March 28th. The exhibit will open to the public from 1:00 pm to 8:00pm on Saturday, March 29th. The open forum begins at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
